Opening times:
Tuesday to Thursday 1.00 pm - 7.00 pm
Friday 1.00 pm - 9.00 pm
Alternative Education:
Monday to Friday 9.30 am - 3.00 pm
Unique Coffee Bar is an independent, sustainable, Youth Project engaging young people by providing a safe meeting place, offering services such as low priced food and drink and free internet access. Our primary aim is to encourage young people who may be experiencing difficulties in local schools, to re-engage in education and training; helping them to achieve their aspirations
Unique Coffee Bar also offers the following:
- Support, guidance and advice services
- Alternative Education courses
- Work experience placements
- Activities during school holidays
- Helps reduce anti-social behaviour and improve community relations
The Young people have their say about the day-to-day management and development of the project, through monthly meetings and direct involvement on the Board
Unique Coffee Bar’s support brings an opportunity for the Young People to increase their self esteem and confidence, helping empower them to achieve, whilst improving their educational attendance. Unique encourages them to take advantage of a range of discreet support and advice services, such as career advice, homelessness support, health services and counselling - tailor-made to meet their specific needs. There are accredited literacy and numeracy classes for the Young People who visit the coffee bar, as some may have been excluded from formal education and this may be their last chance to achieve recognised qualifications and accreditations before joining the ever competitive work place
Unique Coffee Bar in Newark achieved sustainability through the sale of Alternative Education courses to local schools. Although start-up funding was required, the project is now able to run without a reliance on grant funding
The day to day activities of the Unique Coffee Bar are undertaken by Unique Social Enterprise, the trading subsidiary of the Unique Coffee Bar charity
